JOB SUMMARY
The Patient Educator - Mental Health assists in the management and coordination of nursing and institutional resources to ensure effective patient care and Nursing Department operations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE
Working the in basket which includes; patient calls, refill requests, care advice, scheduling, referrals.
Takes vitals and does rooming for psychiatry patients.
Completing the checkout process with patients who are in clinic.
Handles medication prior authorizations.
Manages incoming/outgoing faxes.
Is a liaison between patient and provider.
Responsible for confirmation calls.
Authorizes and schedules referrals.
Verifies insurance benefits.
Handles incoming suicidal calls.
KEY SUCCESS FACTORS
Ability to handle difficult/sensitive topics and patients.
Ability to provide instruction.
Exceptional face-to-face skills.
Must be able to communicate thoughts clearly; both verbally and in writing.
Excellent problem-solving skills.
General computer skills, including but not limited to, using required software applications, data entry, information security, electronic medical documentation, hand held scanning and email.
Healthcare experience preferred.
Mental health experience preferred.

EDUCATION - Bachelor's
EXPERIENCE - Less than 1 Year of Experience
Preferences: Mental health experience, healthcare experience
