Baylor Scott & White Health Patient Educator- Mental Health in College Station, Texas

JOB SUMMARY

The Patient Educator - Mental Health assists in the management and coordination of nursing and institutional resources to ensure effective patient care and Nursing Department operations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE

  • Working the in basket which includes; patient calls, refill requests, care advice, scheduling, referrals.

  • Takes vitals and does rooming for psychiatry patients.

  • Completing the checkout process with patients who are in clinic.

  • Handles medication prior authorizations.

  • Manages incoming/outgoing faxes.

  • Is a liaison between patient and provider.

  • Responsible for confirmation calls.

  • Authorizes and schedules referrals.

  • Verifies insurance benefits.

  • Handles incoming suicidal calls.

KEY SUCCESS FACTORS

  • Ability to handle difficult/sensitive topics and patients.

  • Ability to provide instruction.

  • Exceptional face-to-face skills.

  • Must be able to communicate thoughts clearly; both verbally and in writing.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills.

  • General computer skills, including but not limited to, using required software applications, data entry, information security, electronic medical documentation, hand held scanning and email.

  • Healthcare experience preferred.

  • Mental health experience preferred.

  • EDUCATION - Bachelor's

  • EXPERIENCE - Less than 1 Year of Experience

  • Preferences: Mental health experience, healthcare experience
